Dr. James M. Adams, aged seventy-four years and nine months, died at his home in Marion, this county, Sunday morning. He was born in Scott county, Kentucky, January 15, 1820, and came to this county in 1838. In 1841 he married Miss Phoebe J. Johnson, by who there are two children still living, one being, Dr. Ovid Adams of this city. In 1858 he graduated from the Ohio Medical College of Cincinnati . He was a member of the Methodist Episcopal Church and the Indiana State Medical Society. He organized the first music class in the county, in 1889, and for many years has taught them at their annual meetings. He leaves a widow and three younger children. The funeral will be held at the M. E. Church in Marion at twelve o'clock Tuesday, Rev. J. A. Sargent, officiating. Interment in the Asbury cemetery at Morristown, Cummins & Edwards funeral directors.


Note: Contrary to the obituary provided, research shows Dr. Ovid Adams was the son of James with his 2nd wife, Belinda (Johnson) Adams who was the sister of 1st wife, Phoebe. -- Diane Winters, 5th-great granddaughter of William & Phoeby (Bonnell) Johnson.
