His Iowa death certificate names him as 'Edward J. Snow'.

Edwin married Esther M. Britton in Hillsdale Co. Michigan on Sept. 13, 1859. The family arrived in Guthrie Co. Iowa in 1881 from Henry Co. Illinois (the family had lived in Illinois since 1862). While in Guthrie Co. he was a farmer and carpenter. Edwin and Esther Snow had three children; Elnora Anna, Earl William, and Harrison Osborn.

"Edwin Joseph Snow was born in Cattaraugus County New York, February 28th, 1831, and died in Menlo, Guthrie County, Iowa, November 18th, 1917, at the age of 86 years 8 months and 20 days. When he was about four years old his parents moved to Western Penn soon afterwards they moved to Ohio and then to Michigan. He was united in marriage to Miss Esther Mary Britton Sept. 13, 1859. To this union three children were born, Mrs. Elnora Anna Ensey, of Menlo Ia. Earl William, of Eagle Grove, Ia., and Harry Osborn of Des Moines, Ia. In 1862 they moved to Illinois and came to Guthrie County in 1881 and moved into Menlo in 1886 where he has ever since made his home. He was an affectionate husband, a kind father, a good neighbor and was respected by all who knew him. He leaves to mourn for him a wife, one daughter, two sons, six grandchildren, and three great grandchildren besides other relatives and friends. Funeral services were conducted from the residence by Rev. C.K. Corkill assisted by Rev. Wm. Mack, Tuesday Nov. 20 at 2 P.M. after which he was laid to rest in Menlo cemetery. Mr. Snow has been in failing health for several months, but had no special sickness at the time of death. He was sitting in his favorite chair when the family heard a strange breathing and hastened to him when he died in a few minutes.'
