Bobby Joe LaTurner

Bobby Joe LaTurner, age 75, 1001 West Vine Street, Galena, died suddenly Monday morning, October 6, 2003 at his home.

He was born August 1, 1928 at Hutchinson, Kans., the first of six children. His parents were Carl David and Catherine (Woods) LaTurner.

He was a lifetime resident of Galena.

He graduated from Galena High School in 1947.

He was a veteran of the Korean War, serving in the US Army from 1949 1952, and receiving the Bronze Star.

He had served the City of Galena as former City Councilman, City Clerk, and Municipal Judge.

He served for 16 years as the District Magistrate Judge for Cherokee County, Kans., retiring in 1991. Currently he was employed as Municipal Judge of Baxter Springs.

He was licensed as a barber in Missouri and Kansas.

He was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Galena.

He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus and was a Disabled American Veteran.

He was married to Ruby Ellen Talley on October 5, 1951 in Bentonville, Ark. She survives.

Additional survivors include six children: Rick (wife, Barbara) LaTurner, Galena; Jo Ellen (husband, Michael) Hall, Bartlesville, Okla.; Janet (husband, David) Russell, Galena; Chris LaTurner, Phoenix, Ariz.; Thomas (wife, Shelly) LaTurner, Scammon, Kans., and Mark LaTurner, Galena; three brothers, Jack LaTurner, Jerry LaTurner, and Jim LaTurner, all of Galena; two sisters, Joan Andrews, Phoenix, Ariz. and Jeanene Ballew, Trona, Calif.; 14 grand children and 6 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one granddaughter, Billie (LaTurner) Greisemer.

A Rosary Prayer Service will be held at 7:00 pm, Wednesday, October 8, 2003 at Derfelt Funeral Home, Galena.

Following the rosary, the family will receive friends from 7:30 to 8:30 pm.

A Funeral Mass will be at 10:00 am, Thursday, October 9, 2003 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Galena. The officiant will be Father Chrysostom Ah Maung.

Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery, Galena.

Pallbearers will be Daniel Russell, Matthew Russell, Travis Hall, Mark Allen LaTurner, Jacob LaTurner and Robert LaTurner.
