MONTICELLO, Iowa -- Darlene Ahrndt, 65, of Cascade, formerly of Monticello, died Sunday, Dec. 7, 2008, at Mercy Medical Center-Dubuque, following a sudden illness.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 12, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Monticello, with the Rev. Keith Birch officiating. Burial will be in the Sacred Heart Cemetery, Monticello. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 11, at Goettsch Funeral Home, Monticello, where there will be a parish scripture service at 7 p.m.

She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and had been involved in many church groups. She had been a member of TOPS for 20 years, and was the TOPS Queen in 1978, and the international runner-up.

Darlene was a caregiver and a cook at heart, and with her strong faith she got through the hard times in her life.

Surviving are her husband, Ken; two children, Penny Ahrndt, of Marion, and Martin (Laurie) Ahrndt, of Protivin; a brother, Dale Theisen, of Bernard; and four sisters, Connie Bries, of Peosta, Erma Soppe, of Cascade, Judy O'Dell, of Bernard, and Sally Treinary, of Missouri.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and a sister, Janet.

She was the daughter of LaVern and Nettie Heacock, Theisen Darlene Ahrndt age 65 of Cascade and formerly of Monticello, died Sunday, December 07, 2008 at Mercy Medical Center, Dubuque Darlene L. The couple lived in Monticello where they raised their family. In April of 2008 the couple moved to Cascade, Iowa where they currently resided. Darlene was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and had been involved in many church groups.
