At the age of 12, Ole was living with his sister Marte Landvork in Iola, WI. doubtlessly helping out at his brother-in-law's saloon. By 1880, he was living with his older brother, Knut Olson and his new wife Matti in the Town of Eau Pleine, Portage Co.. Knut was working at a sawmill, but he soon would buy some land in the nearby Town of Bergen. By 1900, "George" himself owned 80 acres in the southeast corner of the Town of Alban, Portage Co., WI..
