J.M. Miller married Nettie Smartt on 21 June 1908 in Admiral, Texas.


Services for Dr. J.M. Miller were held in the Clyde Baptist Church by R.C. Ledbetter, minister of the Church of Christ of which Dr. Miller was a member, assisted by Rev. Smith, Baptist pastor and Rev. Lee, Methodist pastor. Dr. Miller moved to Texas in 1898 settling in Callahan County, settling at Admiral, where he practiced medicine for some years, and where he was married to Miss Nettie Smartt, youngest daughter of the late Gabe Smartt and his wife. In 1913, the couple moved to Clyde and continued the practice of medicine until September 1921 when he suffered a stroke of paralysis. Through years of suffering, he maintained a cheerful disposition. He wrote poetry during his long illness and many friends have in their possession treasured rhymes written by him. His wife was his devoted attendant never tiring in her efforts to relieve him of his suffering. Survived by his wife; one brother and one sister who live in Kentucky.
