Imogene S. Bernard, a lifelong resident of Southeast Portland, died of causes related to age Saturday in a Portland care center. She was 95.
A memorial service was held Tuesday.
Born Sept. 25, 1897, in Portland, she graduated from the old Lincoln High School and attended Reed College for two years. She graduated from the University of Washington with a Bachelor of Arts degree, then earned a master's degree at Columbia University in New York in 1925.
She worked as a schoolteacher in The Dalles briefly before she married Bertram Laurence Bernard in Portland in 1929*, then was a homemaker. Mr. Bernard died in 1952.
At one time, Mrs. Bernard was a member of the University Club, the Multnomah Athletic Club and the boards of the Civic Theater Guild and the Volunteers of America.
Surviving are her son, Kevin Bernard of Ocean Park, Wash.; and three grandsons.
The family suggests remembrances may be contributions to the Mount St. Joseph Residence Care Center.
The body was cremated.
