ED BLANKENSHIP FAMILY

The Ed Blankenship family with five of their children moved to Belle Plaine, Sumner, Kansas from Russell Springs, Russell, Kentucky, when Gordon, the fifth child was about six months old. The other children were Mary, Louis, Loren, and George. (Gordon was born in June of 1908. So they made this trip about December of 1908.)

Eight more were born to this union, making a total of thirteen. One girl died as a baby, but 12 lived to be grown and married.

Ed Blankenshhip farmed all his life. They were a very self-sufficient family, raising and butchering most of the meat they used and growing most of the other food. They went many times to the Oxford Mill with loads of corn and wheat to exchange for meal and flour.

Both Ed and his wife, Willa Maud, died at an early age. Three Blankenship children graduated from Belle Plaine High School, as did four grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.

Writen by Mrs. Gordon Blankenship in 1984 for the Belle Plaine book.
