 Ralph L. Mathews, July 22, 1914 - January 11, 2009, of Columbus, died peacefully at home surrounded by family and loved ones. Ralph is survived by loving wife, Frances of 70 years; daughters, Dolores Richmond, Mary and Jim Jones; sons, Ralph L. Jr. and Mary Kay, Jon, Joseph and Barbara, James and Marsha, Michael and Barb; brother-in-law, William Schirtzinger; and several nieces and nephews. Besides his 7 children Ralph has had the joy of 20 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren through his life. Ralph was a Veteran of WWII and retired from the Worthington News after 45 years of dedicated service. Ralph was preceded in death by his parents John and Mary, brother Robert and Alice, sister Ruth Billman and son-in-law Robert Richmond. Ralph has brought much joy and strength to the Mathews family and will be missed by all but remembered for generations. The family would like to thank Mt. Carmel Hospice especially Donna and Katherine, Life Care Alliance and a special thanks to Diane Rogers, and all who have given them support during this trying time. Donations can be made in Ralph's name to St. Anthony Catholic Church or St. Jude Childrens Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, Tenn. 38105. Friends may call Thursday 4-8 p.m. at EGAN-RYAN FUNERAL HOME, 403 E. Broad St. and at St. Anthony Church Friday one hour prior to Mass. Rosary Thursday 7:30 p.m. Funeral Mass will be Friday 11 a.m. at St. Anthony Church, 1300 Urban Dr. with interment following at St. Joseph Cemetery.
