Benjamin McNeill Smith, 20, of 399 Park Avenue, Leonia, NJ, unexpectedly passed away on Saturday, June 8, 1946. He was on his way home from school that afternoon when the convertible coupe he was riding overturned on Merritt Parkway near the tollhouse in Greenwich, CT instantly killing him. Another passenger 18 year old Charles Brekus of Packanack Lake and 31 year old driver Leo Dan Dorsey of Douglaston, NY were both not seriously injured. Charles was taken to Greenwich Hospital with a brain concussion as Ben succumbed. He was born in Leonia and received his primary education there. Ben was a member of the Methodist Church of Leonia and Phi Delta Alpha Fraternity. Beloved son of Frank Steed Sr. and Julia Eleanor (nee Moore) Smith. Dear brother of Julianne (William) Webb of Leonia and Lieutenant Frank Steed Smith Jr. The funeral services were officiated by Reverend J. M. McLaughlin on Tuesday, June 11, 1946 at 3 PM. Interment followed at Brookside Cemetery in Englewood.
