Funeral services for Mrs. Shirley Kathryn Pate Payne, age 70, of Ruston were held at 11:00 A.M Thursday May 8, 2008 at Kilpatrick Funeral Home Chapel in Ruston. Officiating the service was Rev. Larry Hatcher and Rev. Floyd Pate. Interment followed at New Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery in Arcadia, LA.
Mrs. Payne was born April 29, 1938 and passed away May 6, 2008 following a lengthy illness.
Mrs. Payne was a volunteer with the Ruston Mental Health Clinic, and a director of Second Beginnings in Ruston. She loved education and believed everyone should have one. She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister.
Mrs. Payne was survived by her husband of 49 years O.C. Payne of Ruston, son: Robert L. Swett of Monroe; daughter: Angela Payne Smith and husband Eddie of Arcadia; son: Charles Ray Payne and wife Pam of Ruston; daughter: Pamela Payne Kelley and husband William of Dubach; thirteen grandchildren and nineteen great grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be William Kelley, Eddie Smith, James Michael Davis, Zeb Payne, Jeason Smith and Clint Smith.
