HUMPHREY, Alice Elizabeth James (Hamm) Age 96, born Sept. 1, 1911 in Paradise of Muhlenberg County, Kentucky and passed away on Wednesday, Sept. 19, 2007 in Dayton, Ohio. Her childhood porch was a nightly stage for many pioneers of the bluegrass sound. Family reunions on Labor Day would yield 3 to 4 days filled with music, food, and lots of fun.

The fourth of eleven children, Alice met her husband, Edwin Thomas Humphrey outside of church, where she paid him no mind. He later drove with his feet past her house in his convertible Duesenberg and made her laugh. She married at the tender age of 14 and remained devoted until his passing in 1976, never remarrying. She was known as Libby to family and friends, Alice to co-workers, Mimi, Great Mimi and Grapes to grandchildren and finally Buckshot to her husband whom the family affectionately called Daddy Hunk. They brought from the coal mines a hard work ethic and generous spirit.

She was a staunch supporter of the UAW and was proud to have retired after 30 years of service to Delco Products with full benefits.

She was survived by her son: Jerry Edwin Humphreys of West Carrollton, daughters-in-law: Doris (James) Humphrey of Hamilton, Pat (Humphreys) Brooks of Moraine, grandchildren: Michael Covington and Gary Polsgrove of Louisville, KY, Julia (McGowan), Richard, Thomas and Jennifer (Cun-dif) Humphreys of Franklin, Ohio, Sheila (Craig), Kelly (Johnston), and James Humphrey Jr. of Dayton, Ohio, Sixteen great- grandchildren, six great great grandchildren, many nieces, nephews and friends. She was also preceded in death by her children: infant daughter: Theda Dawn, daughter Jacqueline Polsgrove and son: James R. Humphrey.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, September 30 at the Kindred Funeral Home (400 Union Blvd., Englewood) from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. If desired, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society. The family wishes to thank the many people who showed loving kindness and empathy towards our sweet little Mimi. Online condolences may be made to the family at www.KindredFuneralHome.com
