James Marshall Cullins was born in Indiana to Larkin and Louisa Jane Cullins. The family moved to KS to homestead after his father's service in the Union Army. His father was killed in an accident in Lincoln Center KS when Marshall was a child. His mother brought 10 of her 12 children back to Indiana after Larkin's death. His father is buried in Kansas and his mother is in an unmarked grave at Wiley Chapel Cemetery in Fayette County, Indiana. Marshall married Iva, daughter of Ed and Ada Jones Martin on 9/9/1899. They were the parents of 8 children, two of which were infant sons who died at birth. These infants are buried at Columbia Cemetery in Fayette County, Indiana.
