Karen Ann Deschamps was called home to her Father in Heaven, Tuesday May 13, 2008 in Kirtland, Ohio from injuries sustained in a car accident while serving a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
She was born July 20th, 1947 in Palo Alto, California to Sarah Edna and the late Wallace Ralph Thompson. She was raised and lived in San Jose, California until she graduated from Leigh High School. She then attended Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah where she graduated with a degree in Elementary Education. It was there she met her sweetheart and companion, Randall Deschamps. They were sealed for time and eternity in the St. George, LDS Temple on May 31, 1969. They lived a short time in Lawton, Oklahoma where Karen taught elementary school while Randy was finishing his obligations to the United States Army after graduating from BYU. They then returned to Provo where she taught 2nd grade at Grandview Elementary School. With the arrival of their first child, she became a full-time mother. She considered her role as mother and grandmother to be her greatest joy in life. She was highly involved in both church and community duties and activities, where she was able to share her wonderful musical talents, and her love of life and serving others. Her love of her family and music was only surpassed by her love of the gospel and her Savior, Jesus Christ. Our parent's current mission service in Kirtland, Ohio has been one of the most fulfilling and rewarding experiences of their lives. For the last seven months, Mom and Dad have enjoyed their happiest times, enjoying one another and serving the Lord together.
She is survived by her eternal companion and best friend, Randall Deschamps of St. George, Utah; her mother, Edna Thompson of Orem, Utah; her sister, Connie Johnson of Provo, Utah; and her four children, Denise Urish (Mark) of Las Vegas, Nevada; Marie Norwood (Wesley) of Las Vegas, Nevada; David Randall Deschamps (Jennifer) of Little Rock, Arkansas; Melinda Deschamps of St. George, Utah; and her true joys in life, her beloved grandchildren: Tyler and Mason Urish, Chandler and Chase Norwood, Olivet and Eleanor Deschamps. She was preceded in death by her father, Wallace Ralph Thompson; and her brother-in-law, Gerald Johnson.
A Viewing will be held in St. George, Utah for all Family and Friends on May 22nd at the Spilsbury Mortuary, 110 South Bluff Street from 6 to 9 p.m. A Viewing will also be held in Provo, Utah at Berg Mortuary, 185 East Center Street on May 23rd from 6 to 9 p.m. Funeral Services will be held at the Hillcrest LDS Chapel, 1450 South 800 East, Orem, Utah, on May 24th, 2008 beginning with a Viewing from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. The Memorial Service will follow at 12 p.m.
Interment will be at the East Lawn Memorial Hills Cemetery in Provo, Utah.
