OBITUARY

At his home in Perkins, Oklahoma, Friday, March 26, 1920, Simon Ely, aged 79 years. 7, months and 17 days.

He was born in Indiana August 8, 1841, was married to Sarah Huffman in Iowa, April 11, 1858.

To this union nine children were born, 4 boys and 5 girls, two boys died in infancy.

Mary, wife of John Bowyer died about 20 years ago.

All of the living children were present except Rolly who lives in Cement.

After the death of his first wife he was married to Mrs. Fannie Head Wright* in 1899. To this union one son was born.

He was a veteran in the civil war having served in Co. F, 36th Iowa Infantry.

It was hard to find enough old soldiers for pall bearers. But with trembling hands and faltering steps they once more answered the call, but soon they will answer to more, they are dying at the rate of twenty-five thousand a year.

Simon Ely was a good citizen, a good soldier and a faithful Christian, having been a member of the Church of Christ for more than fifty years.
