Louis Dale Gates, 75, died Tuesday, Dec. 28, 2004, in Idabel.

Services will be held in Strode Chapel on Sunday at 2 p.m. Pastor Jim Holpkemier will officiate. Interment will be in Glenwood Cemetery, Stillwater. Strode Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

He was born in Agra on Nov. 4, 1929 to Thomas Franklin Gates and Bertha D. Courtright. He married Margala Shipman Barnes on May 11, 1990 in Mena, Ark.

He was raised and attended school around the Glencoe area. After leaving the army, he began working in the oilfield business and remained there ever since. He started his own business, Reds Construction, Redco Drilling and G-M Drilling at Ringwood and Woodward. He moved to Oklahoma City in 1983 and was in numerous ventures there. He later moved to Smithville to semi-retire and worked for Hopper Logging until his death. He worked hard and played even harder. He was a kind, honest, fair and straight forward man. You could always count on his word being true. He has helped and touched many people in his life. He loved his family and they loved him dearly. He has many friends who will miss him.

He was predeceased by his parents and two brothers, Gerald Gates and Galen Gates.

He is survived by his wife; one son, Ronnie Gates; one daughter, Becky Weathers; one stepson, Butch Barnes and wife, Jeanne; one stepdaughter, Dawnita Allard and husband, Rusty; five grandchildren, Chad Weathers, Garrett Weathers, Ronda Gates, Sam Gates and Frankie Gates; three stepgrandchildren, Tyson Allard, Cody Allard and Shandi Barnes; one great-grandchild, Cole Weathers; three stepgreat-grandchildren, Braden Moehle, Madison Byrd and Braden Salazar; one brother, Tommy Gates and wife, Helen and one sister, Tricia Gates.
