Marie Eleanora Stewart Duncan, 85, of Kirtland, passed away Wednesday, May 14, 2008 at her home in Kirtland due to a short illness. She was born June 22, 1923, to Frank Alfred Matthews and Leona Holyoak, in Bryce, Ariz. She married Ted R. Stewart on May 5, 1940. To that union were born four children, Irene Marie, Karen, Steven R. and James William. She was active in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving in numerous callings associated with music. She and Ted moved to Farmington in 1958. Ted died Feb. 7, 1975.

Through some close friends, Gary and Eva Duncan, she was introduced to Wayne L. Duncan and they were married Oct. 29, 1982. Marie sold her home in Farmington and moved to Taylor, Ariz. Wayne died April 8, 1996.

In October 1999, she sold her home in Taylor and moved back to the Farmington area to live with her daughter, Karen Brimhall, in Kirtland. She has stayed active in the church and held callings in her ward up until just a couple of months before her passing.
Marie is preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, one son, Steven R. Stewart and two husbands, Ted R. Stewart and Wayne L. Duncan.

She is survived by one sister, Carolee Watson of Pima, Ariz., three children, Irene Marie Cross of Hobbs, Karen Brimhall of Kirtland, James William Stewart and wife, Di, of Las Vegas, Nev., and a daughter-in-law, Nelia M. Stewart of Las Vegas, Nev. She leaves a posterity of 16 grandchildren, 37 great-grand children, and one great-great-grandchild.

Visitation for Marie will be held from 5 ­ 7 p.m., Sunday, May 18, at Brewer, Lee & Larkin Funeral Home. Services will be held at 10 a.m., Monday, May 19, at at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 473 Road 6100, in Kirtland with Bishop Joe Tanner conducting. Interment will follow at Kirtland Cemetery.
