B. W. "Bud" Basgaard

September 23, 1929 - December 15, 2018


B.W. "Bud" Basgaard, 89, of East Grand Forks, MN., passed away on Saturday, December 15, 2018, at the Valley Eldercare Transitional Care Unit.


Bud Basgaard was born on September 23, 1929, in Detroit, MI., the son of Walter and Lydia (Nelson) Basgaard. He went to a country school for 8 years and to the East Grand Forks Senior High School graduating with the Class of 1947. He enrolled in the Business Program at Aaker's Business College where he met his wife, Ruth Lysfjord. They were married on December 31, 1950. In January of 1951 he enlisted in the United States Army and served his country being honorably discharged in October of 1951. Bud worked as a purchasing agent at Armours Packing Company and later as a cattle buyer until the Armour plants closed in Grand Forks & Fargo. Bud then worked as a salesman for McKesson Company & Johnson Brothers out of St. Paul until he retired in 1994. He enjoyed sun & fun at their cabin on Cass Lake, MN and wintered in Mesa, AZ for 15 years.


Loving family members of Bud include his wife Ruth of East Grand Forks, MN; children, Taunja (Kyler) Meers of Cold Spring, MN, Todd (Liz) Basgaard of East Grand Forks, MN and Steffan (Kimberly) Basgaard of Bemidji, MN; 8 grandchildren, Chad (Jackie), Katie (Chad), Kyja (Michael), Whitney (Derek), Megan (Mike), Kendra (Ben), Krista (Nick) and Connor; 9 great-grandchildren and one sister, Betty Lou (Don) Roberts of Grand Forks, ND. Bud is preceded in death by his parents Walter and Lydia Basgaard; father and mother-in-law, Conrad and Clara Lysfjord; great-grandchildren, Charlotte Ruth and Cora Rosemary.


Funeral Service: 11:00 AM on Friday, December 21, 2018 in Our Savior's Lutheran Church, 1515 5th Ave. NW, East Grand Forks, MN


Visitation: One Hour Prior Memorial Service on Friday in Our Savior's Lutheran Church
