Dr. Day was a prominent dentist in Duluth. He was very much involved in civic affairs, spearheading a campaign in the 1890s to put flouride in the city's drinking water and during an unsuccessful mayoral bid in 1913, pushed for the city to assume ownership of the local lighting plant.
For some time, he wrote a humorous column in the Duluth News-Tribune called "Some Philosophy from a Street Car Conversazione". He was also the author of a one-act play called "A Pair of Crooks."
