A David Wendt, 84, Tyler, died Jan. 1, 2012, in a Tyler hospital.

He was born July 1, 1927, in North Olmsted, Ohio, to the late Alvin E. and Marjorie H. Wendt. He was employed by Manpower Inc. as manager of the Cleveland, Ohio, office. He retired as vice president from Society National Bank (now Key Corp.) after more than 21 years where he performed both line and staff management functions in personnel, retail branch administration and electronic delivery services.

After retirement from Society, he relocated to Tyler and worked for Circulatory Dynamics Inc. He loved flying airplanes, playing golf, traveling and spending time on their tree farm in Ohio.

Dave was a member of the Quarry Masonic Lodge 382, Berea, Ohio, and St. Johns Masonic Lodge, Tyler. Dave was also a member of the Al Koran Shrine in Cleveland, Ohio, past president of the Oriental Band Unit of Al Koran Shrine, member of Sharon Shrine of Tyler, past president of the Oriental Band Unit of Sharon Shrine, past secretary/treasurer of the Texas Shrine Association of Oriental Bands. He also was a past commander of the Flying Fez Unit of Sharon Shrine, flying children to the Galveston Shrine Hospital for treatment.

Dave was a member of the Camp Fannin Association of Tyler, serving as a present board member and past president. He designed and helped bring to fruition the Camp Fannin Memorial at UTHSCT as a living legacy to all the World War II Camp Fannin trainees.

He is survived by his loving wife, Marilyn, of 38 years; son, Geoffrey Wendt and wife Julia of Chesterland, Ohio; daughters, Cheryl Wendt of Tyler, Karen and husband Tom Troup, of Stockton, Ga., and Gretchen

Dave served from 1945 to 1947 in the U.S. Army's Military Intelligence Service in Germany as an administrative NCO-Occupational Intelligence Section.

Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Sharon Shrine Oriental Band.

In lieu of flowers, donations in A David Wendt's name may be made to the Shriners Hospitals, 2900 Rocky Point, Tampa, Fla., 33607; or Camp Fannin Veteran Memorial Fund, Box 132024, Tyler, 75713.

A memorial service is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 5, 2012, at Lloyd James Funeral chapel with the Rev. Dr. Allison Thompson officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.
