SPENT MANY YEARS IN POYNETTE AND COMMUNITY
George Henry Loveland, 86, son of Urial and Lucy Stanton Loveland, was born Sept, 23, 1856 in Marquette Co., WI. He was the oldest son in a family of twelve children, six boys and six girls, ten of whom grew to manhood and womanhood. His boyhood was spent in and around Poynette. On Jan 9, 1879 he was married to Alice Buzzell Tuttle. To this union three daughters were born: (Lucy) Mrs. W. I. Knowles, Hamilton Montana; (Clare) Mrs. David Connors, Rice Lake, WI; (Loa) Mrs. L.C. Bailey. North Platte, Nebraska. In 1882 the family moved to Dakota, where George took up a government claim. Here they lived for five years. After selling his homestead he spent several years in California and Washington. Coming back to Wisconsin, they settled in Mondovi, where he was in charge of a grain elevator for years. After the death of his wife he came to Poynette, where he clerked for B.J. Dodge for some time. On Dec 25, 1917 he was married to Miss Addie Butler. In 1920 they moved to Wittenberg, WI., where for eight years they operated a dairy and poultry farm. In May 1928 they returned to Poynette, where George spent the remaining years of his life. He passed away Thursday, December 10, 1942, after a lingering illness. He is survived by his wife, three daughters, three brothers and three sisters, Six grandchildren, nine great grand children and three great great grandchildren. Funeral services were held at the home Sunday pm, Dec 13. Rev E. J. Blair, pastor of the Presbyterian Church, officiated, being assisted by B.L. Walker of Madison, a nephew of Mr. Loveland. Mrs. Helen Holt sang three favorite hymns, being accompanied by Miss Sadie Norton. The pallbearers were Masonic brethren. Interment was in Hillside cemetery.
