CANKTON ~ Funeral services will be held Thursday, March 21, 2024 at a 10:00 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial in St. John Berchman Roman Catholic Church in Cankton for Larry Joseph Babineaux, age 74, who passed away Monday, March 18, 2024 at The Road Home Therapy Center in Church Point.


Interment will be in St. John Berchmans Cemetery in Cankton. The Rev. Msgr. Russell Harrington, will officiate at the services.

Musical selections will be provided by Valerie Andrus.


Mr. Larry was a native and life-long resident of Cankton. A veteran of the military, he proudly served in the United States Marine Corps during Vietnam. A devoted catholic he was a long-time parishioner of St. John Berchmans Catholic Church.


Mr. Larry held his title as husband, father, and grandfather to a high standard; his most cherished times were spent surrounded by family. He always made sure to document every milestone by taking pictures of every memory he could. He was a man of many talents and so creative, he enjoyed wood working, building, and making any and everything he could. Mr. Larry enjoyed cooking and cracking a good joke; he had a witty personality and always kept you on your toes. He leaves behind a huge void in his family's hearts and will be truly missed.


Survivors include his loving wife of fifty years, Patsy Babineaux; his son, Jason Joseph Babineaux and his wife, Jessica; his daughters, Mundy Fontenot and her husband, Mark and Casie O'Pry and her husband Ambrose O'Pry, III; his grandchildren who he held so near and dear to his heart, Dusty Renee Fontenot, Harley Lynn Fontenot, Monty Paul Fontenot, Lola Rose O'Pry, and Dominic Ambrose O'Pry; his brother, Elmo Babineaux and his wife, Jana; his brothers and sisters in law, Bonnie Babineaux and her husband, Fred and Ricky Broussard and his wife, Kim, and Diane Broussard; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.


He was preceded in death by his parents, Duclise Mulate Babineaux and the former Sarah Hernandez; his brothers, Albert Babineaux and his wife, Wilda and Clayton Babineaux and his wife, Cynthia; his in laws, Loadis and Anata Broussard; his greatest friends, Emery Leger and Jerry Touchet; his brothers in law, Ronald Broussard and his wife, Lucy and Donald Jim Broussard.


A rosary will be prayed at 6:00 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home led by Barbara Richard.


The family requests that visiting hours be observed from 11:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. Wednesday and will continue from 8:00 am until service time on Thursday.


Pallbearers will be Monty Fontenot, Jay Thomas, Dennis Babineaux, Ricky Broussard, Randy Broussard, and Tucker Royer. Honorary pallbearers Jason Babineaux, Mark Fontenot, Ambrose O'Pry, Elmo Babineaux, Fred Babineaux, and Samuel Royer.


Melancon Funeral Home, Evangeline Memorial Gardens Chapel, 4117 N. University Ave., Carencro, (337) 896-3232, is in charge of arrangements.
