W. O. Cheney, 81, Dies in Atlanta; Noted Educator
ATLANTA - An educator of 38 years service at the old Tech High School here, W. O. Cheney is dead at 81. He died Friday at his Atlanta home. Cheney came to Tech High when the school opened its doors in 1909, and was there in 1947 when the doors were closed forever to make way for nine community high schools. During his tenure, Cheney rose from associate professor of mathematics to principal, serving 26 years in the latter capacity. Before coming to Atlanta, he was principal of high schools in Eaton, Valdosta and Americus.
