Funeral services for George F. Childress, Sr., 74, of Levelland are 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 14, 2008, at Cactus Drive Church of Christ, with Wayne Horton and Bob Reynolds officiating. Burial will follow in the City of Levelland Cemetery under direction of George Price Funeral Home. He died Monday, May 12, 2008, at Lynwood Manor, under the care of Hospice of Lubbock. The family will receive visitors at the funeral home from 6 - 8 p.m. Tuesday, May 13, 2008.

George was born to Clyde and Estelle Childress on June 5, 1933, in Lynn County. He graduated from O'Donnell High School in 1950. He worked in the oilfield for Haliburton Co. for ten years, and then in 1960 began farming. He retired in 1995. He was a member of Cactus Drive Church of Christ, where he served as a deacon and later as an elder. He also served on the board of directors of the Opdyke Co-Op Gin. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Velda Gillespie Childress in 1994; and a sister, Mildred Curry.
