John Jake White was born January 5th 1806 in Delaware. His parents were William and Phebe (UKN) White . His family immigrated from Delaware to Indiana before 1812, as their last three children were born in Indiana during the 2nd decade of the century. Probably crossing Pennsylvania and Ohio, they eventually settled on a homestead in Fountain County, Indiana.
John "Jake" White was married to Sarah (UKN- name unknown) around 1830 and they had six children prior to Sarah's death in 1844. Their children were William (1831), Eliza (1832), Sylvester (1834), George (1835), Phebe (1839), and Caleb (1843). John was a farmer like his father and the cemetery is thought to be on his parent's homestead . Many of William and Phebe's descendants and others are buried here probably numbering at least fifty gravesites.
Shortly after Sarah's death, and with six children ranging in age from 2 yrs to 14 yrs, John married Nancy Piper in 1845. Nancy was the daughter of another family who had immigrated to Indiana from Pennsylvania and obtained a homestead as the western land opened for settlement. Nancy and John had an additional five children, including Susan (1849), Martha Jane (1853), Philip John (1855), Mary E. (1857) and Julia A. (1859). That made a total of eleven children under 18 yrs.
John and Nancy died in 1862 and 1863 respectively, leaving five young children. A headstone has not been found for Nancy but she very likely is buried here also.

Gravesite Details

Cemetery is located on the land originally homesteaded by William White, father of John. Spoke with city cemetery worker while I was there and he said that they maintain this cemetery but maintenance seems to be sporadic as it is in poor condition.
