Charles F. Steers, age 76, of Joplin, Mo., went home to the Lord on Sunday, May 11, 2008, at St. John's Hospital, following a brief illness. Charles was born on April 19, 1932, in Ponca City, Okla., the son of the late Franklin and Emmaline Steers. He worked for the city of Joplin as chief operator of the Lone Elm Waste Water Treatment Plant, retiring in 1997. He served as pastor of the Joplin Free Methodist Church for 30 years. He then served as an associate pastor of the Webb City Church of the Nazarene for the past 13 years. He was the head of the Joplin Ministerial Alliance for several years and he held church services for the Autumn Place Nursing Center. He married Luealta Goodale Steers on June 16, 1951. She preceded him in death in January 1997. He married Joan C. Goodale on May 1, 1997. She survives. Additional survivors include three sons, Charlie W. Steers and wife, Jill, Jay, Okla., John Mark Steers and wife, Coleta, McPherson, Kan., and Paul Steers, Joplin; one daughter, Christina Moore and husband, Tootie, Seneca, Mo.; two stepsons, David Goodale and wife, Debra, Wichita, Kan., and Robert Michael Goodale, Memphis, Tenn.; one stepdaughter, Paula Sue Nichols and husband, Paul, Arlington, Kan.; one sister, Phyllis Steers, Blackwell, Okla.; 13 grandchildren; and seventeen great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, Eugene Steers. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Webb City Church of the Nazarene. Pastor Stephen Smitley will officiate. Burial will be in Osborne Cemetery. The pallbearers will be Chuck Steers, Justin Johnson, Rodney Consier, Wally Spears, Brian Southard and Marty Moore. The family will receive friends 6 from 7 p.m. Tuesday at the mortuary. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society. Arrangements are under the direction of Mason-Woodard Mortuary and Chapel.
