J. L. Johnson, 92, affectionately known by his friends and co-workers as "Tangle eye", died peacefully in his sleep Saturday, May 3, 2008 in his Moss Bluff residence.

He was born on January 23, 1916, in Oakdale and graduated from Reeves High School in 1934. He served in the US Army in 1941-42 and received an honorable discharge. He worked as a pipe fitter with of Plumbers and Steamfitters Local # 106 for the rest of his adult life until he retired at age 68. He attended night school for 12 years while working as a pipe fitter and obtained a BS from McNeese State University in 1972. He served his local union by holding several offices during his work life including Financial Secretary, acting Business Manager and Business Representative for the United Association of Journeyman Plumbers and Steamfitters.

He was an avid hunter and fisherman and an occasional golfer who had difficulty calculating his score correctly. He loved football.

J.L. Johnson married twice. He first married Frankie Adkins on March 7, 1945 and was married 31 years. Of that marriage, five children were born; Charles "Butch"
Johnson, Terry J. Johnson, Robert Dean Johnson, Bonita Kay Johnson and Jimmy LeLand Johnson. Bonita Kay and Jimmy Johnson predeceased him. He next married Jean Evelyn Barnett on May 24, 1986. No children were born of that union.

He is survived by his loving wife of 22 years, Jean Evelyn, three sons and their wives, Butch and Nola, Terry and Pam and Dean and Donna, all of Moss Bluff; seven grandchildren, Chuck Johnson, Anna-Catherine Rose, Jonathan Johnson, Adam Johnson, Sarabeth Johnson, Dina Johnson and Chad Johnson; three great grandchildren, Samantha Johnson, Kristen Johnson and Ashton Johnson. He is survived by one sister, Bobbie Marcin of Moss Bluff and two step sons, Jeffery L Burnett of Baton Rouge and James B. Burnett, Jr. of DeRidder.

His service was at 3:00 pm, Monday, May 5, 2008 in Johnson Funeral Home chapel. Rev. C. M. Green will officiated. Burial followed in Creel Cemetery in Bel.
