Robert N. Monroe
Robert Noel Monroe Sr., 81, of Ithaca, passed away Monday, April 10, 1995, at the Schnepp Health Care Center in St. Louis.
He was born May 29, 1913, the son of Alfred A. Monroe and Anna Laura Lepley Monroe.
He married Grace E. Geyer on June 25, 1939, in Ashley.
He was the founder and owner of R.N. Monroe Trucking from 1948 until his retirement in 1983. He loved spending time at Drummond Island, being out-of-doors and planting trees. His dedication to the business and love of work will be remembered by all who knew him.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Grace; his eldest son, Robert Jr. and wife Linda, of Ithaca; a daughter, Janet Derry and her husband Mike of Alma; a son, Rick and his wife Jean, of Ithaca; a daughter, Gail Byam and her husband Al, of Indianapolis, Ind.; and a son, Ken Monroe of Ithaca.
Also surviving are two brothers, Alfred A. and his wife Katherine, of Ithaca, John and his wife Katherine, of Alma; five sisters, Helen Tracy of Ithaca, Marguerite Brown of Breckenridge, Agnes Lane of Hernando, Fla. Alice Gould and her husband, Arlo, of Clio, Barbara Cook and her husband Lloyd, of Elsie; 14 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Ely, and two sisters, Anna Eicher and Dorothy Cratsenburg.
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday at Barden Funeral Horn with the Rev. David McBride officiating. Interment has been scheduled at a later date on Drummond Island. Memorial contributions may be made to the Ithaca Senior Citizen Building.
