Mattie O'Neal Rhodes Allen Hayes, 95, South Union Street, Summerville, died Thursday morning, Jan. 23, in a Rome hospital.
Mrs. Hayes was born in Medon, Tenn., on Dec. 23, 1901, the daughter of the late Thomas and Minnie Estes Rhodes. She was a Baptist by faith and was a retired textile worker and health occupational worker. Mrs. Hayes was preceded in death by her husbands, John Henry "Buck" Allen and G.C. Hayes; and two daughters, Sibil LaVisa Allen and Juanita Allen Reid.
Survivors include one daughter, Jackie Morgan, Summerville; four grandchildren, Barbara Hamilton, Clemmons, N.C., Drew Reid, Centre, Ala., and Ricky Kellett and Milford Morgan, both of Summerville; one son in law, Andrew Reid, Centre, Ala.; four stepdaughters, Lucille Henderson, Annie Ruth Pettyjohn, Dealver Owens and Jessie Harris; four stepsons, Ernest Hayes, John H. Hayes, Billy Hayes and Roger Hayes; 12 great grandchildren; six great great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 25, in the Summerville Cemetery with the Rev. Randall Massengill officiating.
Pallbearers were grandchildren.
J.D. Hill Funeral Home had charge of the arrangements.
