ELBERT L. ''BERT'' BATES JR., 67, 608 N. Grey Ave., Wildwood, died Saturday, Feb. 1. Mr. Bates was the former owner of Bates Insurance Agency and Suds and Shine Laundromat. Born in Alabama, he moved to Central Florida in 1969. He was past master of the Wildwood Masonic Lodge and charter member of Wildwood Rotary Club and member of Sumter County Against Toxin. He was an Air Force veteran of World War II. Survivors: wife, Mary Sue; sisters, Eulalah Morris, Dortha Nell Hembree, both of Cullman, Ala.; son, Elbert L. III, Spartanburg, S.C.; daughters, Sondra Cole, Thailand, Janice Corry, Mississippi, Lorraine Crumpler, Lady Lake, Linda Tilton, Laura Shelly, Lois Locke, all of Wildwood, Patty Myers, Ocala, Sherri Beuchert, Miami, Mary Nell Hohn, Orange Park, Robin Houck, Wildwood; 30 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren.
