GALENA, Kan. — James Kenneth Starina, 78, Galena route 2, died at 7:10 a.m. Saturday at Freeman Hospital, Joplin, Mo., after an illness.

Mr. Starina was born Nov. 15, 1915, in Galena. He was a lifelong Galena area resident.

He worked 31 years at the former B.F. Goodrich plant in Miami, Okla., before retiring in 1977.

He was an Army veteran of World War II, serving in the South
Pacific.

He was president of the Baxter Miners Camping Club. He was a member of the National Family Campers and Hikers Association.

He married Opal Carolyn Brasch on Dec. 24, 1941, at Pineville, Mo. She survives.

Additional survivors include two daughters, Jane Starina, Galena route 2, and Kathy Carter, Baxter Springs; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Note: Also had one surviving son, with his first wife.
