OBITUARY Published: Tue, Dec 28, 1999 The Reporter Vacaville, CA Lt. Col. Lester William Porter A funeral for Lt. Col. Lester William Porter, 84, of Vacaville will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday in Chapel 1 at Travis Air Force Base. Burial with full military honors will follow at the Vacaville-Elmira Cemetery. Chaplain Jim Glass will officiate. Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Nadeau Family Funeral Home.

Born Nov. 11, 1915, in Huntley, Neb., Mr. Porter died Dec. 26, 1999, at Vencor Hospital in Folsom after a long illness. He was an assistant field director with the American National Red Cross for 13 years after his retirement from the U.S. Air Force in 1965. Mr. Porter is survived by his wife of 51 years, Ottis Ellie "Boots" Porter of Vacaville; son and daughter-in-law, L. William III and Marlene of Havannah, Fla.; daughters, Ellen Parnell Porter-Cheechov of Vavaville and Colleen Dee of Dixon; brother, Everett David of Holdredge, Neb.; cousins, Phyllis and Vincent Colgan and Lucille and Wayne Erickson, all of Holdredge; two grandsons and one great-granddaughter.

Memorial contributions can be made to the American National Red Cross, Salvation Army, the American Legion or the United Methodist Home in Holdredge.

This genteel Nebraska farm boy with integrity, proud, humble, thirsting for knowledge, met his role models at Hamilton Field Enlistment, 1937. Member B-26 Marauders via 11th AF, 7th Bomb GP (H), survivor two aircraft crashes, tour with Gen. "Wild Bill" Donovan's OSS; War contracting, engineering (WWII Glider Program); Joint Geodetic survey; HQ staff CINCPAC (Cuban Crisis), Panel member joint military communications system; Dir/Comm HQ 22nd AF 1963 until 1965 retirement, were among many valued experiences, proud achievements; regular officer commission.

Post-military; Rewarding 14 years with American National Red Cross; tours in Germany and Viet Nam.

Thank you for our warm, affectionate, gifted and valiant hero, Amen.
