James is the son of Jacob Steven Cheechov (1865-1943) and Martha Pavelivna Evanikoff (1870-1941). He is one of nine children: Mary, Steven, Anna, William, John, James, Nicholas, Katherine and Jack.
James married Nellie John Treguboff (1904-1999) about 1925. They had six children: George, Pearl, John, Jack, James, Shirley.

A memorial service for longtime Vacaville area farmer James J. Cheechov, 82, will be conducted at 6 p.m. Sunday at McCune Garden Chapel in Vacaville. Funeral services will follow at 11 a.m. Monday at McCune's.
Mr. Cheechov died in a Fairfield convalescent hospital Thursday.
Born in Russia; he farmed in the Vacaville area for 60 years. Survivors include his wife, Nellie Cheechov, of Vacaville; two daughters, Shirley Romanoff of Bakersfield: and Pearl Rohrke of Sacramento; two sons, John and Jack Cheechov, both of Vacaville; 13 grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Burial will be in Vacaville-Elmira Cemetery.
