Ervin S. Dow, Sr., died peacefully in his sleep on Saturday, January 12, 2008 in the same room of his home in Albion, Maine where he was born over 93 years ago. One of eight children, he was the youngest son of Andrew and Clara (Ridlon) Dow. He was the oldest male resident of his town.

As a life-long Albion resident he graduated from Besse High School in 1932. His work on his uncle's farm culminated in their 1939 road trip to Florida. Upon his return he married Virginia L. Whynott and started 39 years of employment at C. N. Chalmers' sawmill.

He served his community actively through PTA, Boy Scouts, 4H, Grange, IOOF, and as a founding member of the Albion Volunteer Fire Department. He was proud of his successful appearances on the MPBN series, "So You Think You Know Maine."

He loved to travel and visited nearly every corner of Maine with his family. He accompanied Boy Scouts canoeing the Allagash River and climbing Katahdin. He enjoyed a road trip across the United States with friends, and trips with family to Alaska, Florida, Arizona, Washington DC, Ohio, Nova Scotia, all over New England. He loved to play cards with friends and listened to nearly every Red Sox game.

He is survived by his widow and by sons Rev. E. Scott Dow and spouse Sharon of Augusta, Leonard A. Dow and spouse Donna of Albion, Phillip G. Dow and spouse Janet of Albion, and daughter Pearle J. Brake and spouse Jack of Clinton. His grandchildren are Peter Dow of Augusta, Sarah Dow of Turner, Jody Watson and spouse Michael of China, Todd Dow and spouse Amanda of Albion, Phillip Dow, Jr., and spouse Rosaleen of Burlington, Jason Dow and spouse Heidi of Albion, Matthew Dow and spouse Amy of Albion, Andrew Dow and spouse Mary of Albion, Timothy Dow and spouse Nicole of Alton, Tammy Whittaker and spouse Alan of Horsham, PA, Marie Hirayama and spouse Dean of Seattle, WA., and Timothy Alberts and spouse Lisa of China.
