VETERAN COUNTY MERCHANT DIES - GEORGE E. HARDESTY EXPIRES AT ST. MARY HOME LAST FRIDAY - George E. Hardesty, 68, well known merchant at St. Mary, died at his home there last Friday afternoon at 4:45 o'clock. Death was due to paralysis and heart trouble. He had been in failing health for some time. Mr. Hardesty was a native of Meade County, born there on October 28, 1877, a son of C. M. and Sarah Jones Hardesty. He came to this county as a young man, married Miss Jane Buckler and for years had engaged in the grocery business at St. Mary. Formerly, he was with the W. R. Logsdon Store, but in recent years he had owned his own establishment and was widely known in the western part of the county.
SON IN ARMY.
Survivors include his widow and three children, a son, James Hardesty, in the Army, and two daughters, Mrs. Albert Nalley of St. Francis and Mrs. Susan Thompson, at home. Four brothers also survive, F. E. and John Hardesty, here, R. H. Hardesty of Loretto, and E. C. Hardesty of Louisville, and one sister, Mrs. George Hobbs of Flaherty, in Meade County. He also leaves several grandchildren. The body was brought to the Bosley Funeral Home and remained until Saturday afternoon, when it was removed to his late residence. Requiem mass was intoned at 9 o'clock Monday morning at St. Charles Church by the Rev. Fred W. Dudine, and burial was in the church cemetery. Pallbearers were Joe and Hugh Beaven, Joe Peterson, Bob Hamilton, Charlie B. and Goldie Mattingly, Harold Elder and Nick Mudd.
