John Kaminska

John Kaminska was born June 28, 1882, to Wilhelmina and William Kaminska of Shelby, Polk County, Nebraska, one of ten children, and was 57 years, 2 months and 21 days of age at the time of his death at his home in Fredonia, Kansas, September 19, 1939. His childhood was spent in Shelby where he was baptized into the German Baptist Church. The family moved to Concordia, Missouri where he attended and graduated from school.

At the age of 16, he became a ***man on the railroad. He gave this up several years later to enter business college in Beatrice, Nebraska. He earned his way by working nights in the power plant in Beatrice. About this time he joined the Masonic Lodge becoming a 32nd degree Mason and at the time of his death was a member of good standing in the Hastings, Nebraska Consistory.

After finishing his business course, he became light and water commissioner at Edgar, Nebraska---a position he held until 1919. He then took a position as engineer in the power plant at Oak, Nebraska, which furnished electricity for ten towns. He held this position for five years. During the World War, an account of shortage of help, for nineteen months he ran this plant entirely alone, working both day and night shifts.

On October 7, 1916, he was united in marriage to Miss Lois Schlemer of Davenport, Nebraska, at Hastings, Nebraska. To this union were born two children---Norma Jean (Mrs. Wayne Anderson) and John, Jr.

Leaving Oak, he went to Superior, Nebraska, where he was engineer for the cement plant, After being there for a year, he was hired by the Cowham Engineering Company for which company he had worked for the past nineteen years. He was sent to Cement City, Michigan, where he was chief engineer of the power house and construction superintendent, After seven years in Cement City he was sent by the same company to Tampa, Florida, where he held a like position constructing the Florida Portland Cement Plant. In 1932 he was transferred permanently to Fredonia where he has been chief engineer for the Consolidated Cement Company.

He is survived by his wife, two children, three brothers and four sisters.

He was a conscientious worker and was well liked by all who worked with him.

Funeral services were conducted by Rev. Ed A. Reinhardt, pastor of the Christian Church, at the Wilson Funeral Home at 2:30 Thursday afternoon, September 21. The body was taken to Davenport, Nebraska for burial on Friday.---Wilson County Citizen, Fredonia, Kansas.

Mr. Kaminska was a member of Edgar Lodge No. 67 A. F. & A. M. and members had charge of the commitment services at the grave in Davenport Friday afternoon at 4:00 p.m. Attending were A. A. Recht, C. H. Merrill, Arthur Scism. Harry Young, Wayne Johnson, Dr. E. A. Good, Z. O. Elifritz, F. A. Westering and A. H. Swanson.
