February 17, 1945 - December 19, 2023


Darrell Wayne Mefford, 78, went to be with his Savior on December 19, 2023. He was born on February 17,1945 in Palestine, Illinois. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ralph & Jewel (Buckner) Mefford of Palestine, Illinois and sister Dorothea Kermicle of Cross Plains, Wisconsin.

Darrell is survived by his loving wife of over 42 years, Debra Ann (Long) Mefford of Frisco, Texas, daughter Angela & husband Francois Danieau with 3 children Andre, Max, & Jessie of Mansfield, Texas, son John & wife Crystal with 3 children Garrett, Savannah, & Camryn of Little Elm, Texas, son Jason Mefford of Garland, Texas, sister Kathryn & husband David Anglemyer of Cadott, Wisconsin, sister Deette & husband Del Domes of Snohomish, Washington, and many nieces, nephews & their children.

While growing up Darrell worked hard on the family farm along with his sisters, raising cattle among other animals and constantly battling droughts or flooding of the Wabash River during harvest season. After graduating from Palestine High School, Darrell went on to Master in Physics and Minor in Mathematics between Wayne State University and Southern Illinois University. He then served in the U.S. Army at the Air Defense Center Nuclear Agency, Fort Bliss, Texas. Upon receiving an honorable discharge from the Army, Darrell worked several jobs throughout his career including Semicon, Inc. in Bloomington, Indiana, RCA and GE of Findlay, Ohio, Harris Corporation of Melbourne, Florida, Owens Community College of Findlay, Ohio, Dallas Semiconductor & Maxim Integrated of Addison, Texas.

During his retirement, Darrell enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren, always with a camera in his hand ready to take that perfect shot of them playing or competing in a sporting event. He was also an avid DIY enthusiast, constantly watching videos and experimenting with new ways of doing things.

While living in Ohio, Darrell was a member of Trinity Baptist Church in Findlay, Ohio for 20 years where he served as a deacon. He had since been a faithful member of Prestonwood Baptist Church of Plano for the past 23 years and was active in the Matthews Life Group led by Bill Matthews.

The family will receive friends at a visitation on Wednesday, January 3, 2024 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Allen Family Funeral Options.

A Committal Service will be held on Thursday, January 4, 2024 at 10:00 a.m. at DFW National Cemetery. Livestream of the service can be viewed at: www.mefford.family/darrell-dfw
