His father was born in Barbadoes and was the manager of the West India and Panama Cable Co. of London. They moved to various countries in the So. America area. His father died in 1907 in British Guinea. Hiram immmigrated to the USA in 1906 and lived at 230 Euclid Ave RIdgefield Park, Bergen, NJ. where he met his future wife. They later moved to Tenafly, Bergen County, NJ.
