Jacob William Gearhart, 60, of Ferrum went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, December 4, 2007. Preceding Jacob in death were his parents, William Owen and Bessie Hodges Gearhart; sister, Bernice Collier; and grandparents, William Eugene and Callie Stump Gearhart and James Virgia and Amanda Starkey Hodges. Surviving to cherish his memory are lifelong friends, Lula Scott and Roger Scott; brother, Ben Gearhart; nieces and nephews, Sandra Tan and husband, John, Leonard Collier, Bobby Collier, Benny Gearhart and Patricia Gearhart; and many other family members; special friends at Ferrum College, Ruben and Mary Ann Altice, Pat Webster, Linda Edwards, Sherman and Peggy Lacks; and numerous others. A memorial service celebrating Jacob's life will be held on Saturday, December 8, 2007, at 3 p.m. at Vaughn Chapel on the campus of Ferrum College with the Rev. Floyd Harrison and the Rev. Wes Astin officiating. The family will receive friends from 2 to 3 p.m. on Saturday before the service. Arrangements by Lynch Funeral Home, Rocky Mount, Va.
