Governor. Robert David Fulton was a prominent figure in Iowa's political landscape. He served as the 37th Governor of Iowa for a brief period, from January 1, 1969, until January 16, 1969, and before that, he was the 37th Lieutenant Governor of Iowa from January 17, 1965, until January 1, 1969. A member of the Democratic Party, Fulton also served as a member of the Iowa House of Representatives from 1958 to 1960 and as a member of the Iowa Senate from 1962 to 1964. He took over the gubernatorial office from Harold Hughes, who was elected to the United States Senate. Fulton was married to Rachel Breault from 1955 until her death in 2015. He spent the last ten years of his life at Jones Harrison Senior Living in Minneapolis, where he passed away at the age of 94.
