Alan Dee Abston

OCTOBER 18, 1954 – JANUARY 28, 2024

IN THE CARE OF

Stephens and Bean Funeral Chapel

Alan Dee Abston, 69, of Fresno CA was called home to be with the Lord on January 28, 2024, after he fought hard to overcome complications from the flu. Alan passed away peacefully as he was surrounded by his closest family at the VA medical center in Fresno.

Born on October 18, 1954, to Franklin Dee and Betty Jean Greer Norris, Alan was brother to his twin Frank, his brother Robert, and sister Teresa. Raised in the valley, Alan lived a life filled with adventure, perseverance, and commitment.

Alan graduated from Fresno High School in 1973 with his brother Frank. He then entered the Army in 1974-1977. The Army would recognize Alan in a recommendation letter for early promotion as the PFC who stood out above the rest in dedication, professionalism, and desire to produce. Alan's duty in the service ended but did not come to a complete halt.

Upon exiting the military, he would step up and begin learning the plastering trade from his father "Dee". He would dedicate himself to becoming a master at plastering and was sought after from many to create beautiful interior and exterior finishes. Over the years he would become a skilled carpenter and electrician and would use these gifts to serve his family, friends and community. He would end his career in a maintenance position at his home church where he enjoyed sharing all that he learned to serve God.

Some of Alan's favorite things to do were fishing, camping, riding his ATV, driving back roads, and finding the best soft serve and hot dog spots from the bay to the valley. He enjoyed making memories with family and friends and never met a stranger nor had any enemies. Some of his greatest accomplishments were overcoming addiction, finding salvation, service in many forms to the community he lived in, being a dedicated father, grandfather, uncle, brother, cousin, and friend.

Alan was a man who held onto hope, never complained even when walking through the darkest of valleys and was always optimistic. He was faith filled and would be found in his bible, serving the church or community in his later years of life. His humor was one of a kind and his smile would brighten up every room he walked into. He believed in the goodness of God and would share the Lord's faithfulness with how he loved others.

A treasure to hold and a gift to many, his legacy will continue on through the lives he has ministered to through construction, recovery, and the outdoors. Alan is survived by his daughter Jessica Kincaid and son in law Chris, son Cody Abston and daughter in law Katie, and grandchildren Cole, Kyle, Riley, and Jordyn, brother and best friend Frank Abston (Jackie), brother Robert Abston (Jolene), and sister Teresa Kehoe-Abston (Mike), as well as many others who know him as dad, grandpa, uncle and friend.

A celebration of Life for Alan is scheduled for Saturday March 2, 2024, beginning at 10:00 am at Mountain View Community Church, 3600 N Fowler Ave, Fresno, CA 93727.
