Merrill Pickett was born in Gunnison, Utah on March 18, 1903. He was the son of John Jeremiah and Lurany Iness Roper Pickett. Merrill had six sisters and four brothers.

He married Erma Olsen April 28, 1926 in the Manti Temple. They are the parents of six children. Norma, Jerry, Louis, Nada Ann, Phyllis, and Kirby.

Merrill was a farmer. He enjoyed his children and grandchildren. Merrill and Erma went on two missions for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Merrill and Erma were workers at the Manti Temple for 14 years.

Merrill died at the age of 77. May 7, 1980 in Gunnison, Utah.
