Elmer Jones, 85 of Sidney, Nebraska died early Tuesday morning, April 29, 2008 at the Memorial Health Center, Extended Care in Sidney.

Funeral services will be held at 2:30 P.M., Friday, May 2, 2008 in the Light Memorial Presbyterian Church in Sidney with Pastor Bud Gillespie officiating. Burial will follow in the Potter Cemetery.

Friends may call from 1:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Thursday and from 9:00 A.M. to noon Friday at the Holechek Funeral Home in Sidney.

Memorials have been established to the Memorial Health Center Hospice and Extended Care in Sidney.

Elmer Henry Jones was born in Kimball County, Nebraska on July 30, 1922. He was born to Edward and Elizabeth (Fisbak) Jones. He grew up in the Kimball area and attended the Kimball Public Schools. After school, he was engaged in farming in the Potter area, where he met and married Alice Virginia Rasmussen of Dix, Nebraska on October 22, 1942.

He was drafted in December of 1942 into the U.S. Army. He served three years in the 3527th Ord. MAM Company in the European theatre in Northern France, the Rhineland and central Europe. At the end of World War II, after his discharge, he and Alice moved to the Greeley, Colorado area where they had two children: Sharon Kaye and Daryl Lynn. While there he was employed by Great Western Sugar Company for 20 years as a dragline operator. He later had his own dragline business and enjoyed herb farming and raising sheep.

In 1988 he retired and moved to the Kimball area. He married Donna Hasses in 1990. In 2000 he moved to Sidney where he resided at Western Heritage.

Elmer's favorite pastimes were fishing, senior dances, and visiting with his friends and family. He was a past 4-H leader. He was a member of the American Legion, VFW and the Sidney Elk's Lodge #1894.

Survivors include one daughter Sharon and husband Dwight Tisdale of Kimball, NE; one son Daryl Jones of Scottsbluff, NE; two granddaughters: Nicole and husband Lawrence Snyder of Kimball, NE and Kimberly and husband Andrew Derr of Friend, NE; four great-grandchildren: Colton Snyder, Madison Snyder, Nathanial Derr and Breanna Derr; one sister Eldora Wheeler of Sterling, CO; special friend Rita Ring of Sidney, NE and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and two brothers.
