Vasily Romovich Nabokov was born in the village in the Soviet Union on January 17, 1950. He emigrated to the United States in 1968 with his mother and father, who asked for asylum due to political pressures from the local communist government after Mr. Nabokov had published a series of articles critical of the communist party.
Vasily had some trouble adjusting to American life. He was put in a high school at the Junior level although he was 18 years of age due to the language barrier. He dropped out of school six months later.
Vasily moved from job to job, never sticking with any profession more than a few months. He was described as a "restless spirit" by friends. Most also described him as "wild". He loved parties and often drank excessively. He was seen with different women all the time and rarely dated one woman at a time.
In the late 1980s Vasily became interested in pornography. Some acquaintances said he was "addicted" to it. At the time of his death, friends said he used to rant about how the Internet would one day be the future of porn and he wanted to be one of the first ones in on it. He had been talking to people about investing, and some say he had become friendly with some men associated with the Russian mob in Los Angeles County.
