Lou Avery Jewell, departed this life at his home in Thayer, Mo. June 27, 1967; where he had lived for 67 years. He was of the age of 86 years, 2 months, and 27 days. He was born April 1, 1881 in Summersville, Mo., to the late Sam and Martha (Shelton) Jewell.
He was married to Sarah Elizabeth Altis at Clover Bend, Ark. Sept. 29, 1901.
He was a member of Thayer Freewill Baptist Church for many years.
He leaves to mourn his passing, besides his wife, Sarah, of the home; two sons, Lawrence Jewell of Thayer, Mo.; and Roy Jewell of Thayer, Mo; four daughters, Julia Phillips of Thayer, Mo.; Ruby Stephens of Independence, Ky.; Ada Oliver of Durand, Mich.; and Edith Harris of Kansas City, Mo.; one sister, Vicy Tawl of the state of California; one brother, Edd Jewell of Hastings, Iowa, 13 grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren; 12 step-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and host of other relatives and friends.
Two children preceded him in death, Samual Avery in 1965, and ?.
Funeral services are to be held Friday in the Carter Funeral Chapel in Thayer, with Rev. Grover Pingleton officiating. Interment will be in Shiloh Cemetery, under the direction of Carter Funeral Home of Thayer.
