born 22 Feb 1836 in Alabama Indian Territory. When she was two years old, she travelled part of the 'Trail of Tears' with her parents, Charles Pickett Oxendine and Martha Shumate/Shoemake, before they continued on to California. She married Pleasant Isaac Slaughter on 7 July 1855 in Stockton, California. They had nine children. After the death of her first husband, she married Thomas Polmanteer on 6 May 1872 in Colusa, California. They had two children. She was listed as half Cherokee on the 1910 Indian population census in Redding, California. E. A. (Oxendine) Slaughter Polmanteer died on 31 May 1915 in Redding, California.
