Merrell Andrew Ketchum, Jr., age 87, a resident of Plainfield since 2013 and formerly a longtime resident of Ionia, Michigan, passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 12, 2017.

He was the son of Merrell A. Ketchum, Sr. and Helen Morgan Ketchum.


Merrell is a Korean War Veteran and served in the US Air Force. He was employed by Michigan Industries and was a member of the First Baptist Church in Ionia, MI. He enjoyed golfing, bowling, playing cards, reading and was an accomplished painter. He found great joy in participating with and teaching these activities to his children and grandchildren.

Merrell is fondly remembered for the kindness and generosity he extended to everyone he encountered.

In addition to his beloved wife of 68 years Norene Parker Ketchum, Merrell is survived by his daughter Linda (Kerry) Allen of Plainfield and his son Merrell A. Ketchum, III (Lisa) of Tuscaloosa, Alabama, his grandchildren, Daniel (Trista) Allen, Stefanie Allen, Jenna Allen, Reid (Tara) Ketchum and Morgan Ketchum and his great-grandchildren Zoe, Violet and Olivia.

He was the brother of Barbara Dreffs and Gordon Ketchum.
