William J. "Bill" McCartan, 59, of Irving died Friday at an Irving hospital.

Mr. McCartan was a native of Buffalo, N.Y. He was employed as a professor for the electronic technology program at DeVry College for 20 1/2 years. During his tenure at DeVry, he taught over 4,000 students and 300 courses. He was a member of St. Luke's Catholic Church in Irving and was named Faculty Member of the Semester in 1990. 


He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth McCartan of Irving; sons, Patrick McCartan of Lewsville, Will McCartan of Irving and step-son Steve Hogue of Duncanville; daughter, Sandy Marsh of Kaufman; brother, Dick McCartan of West Seneca, N.Y.; Sister Ginger McGinty of West Seneca, N.Y.; mother, Anna McCartan of West Seneca, N.Y; and eight grandchildren.


A rosary was held Monday at Donnelly's Colonial Chapel. Mass was held Tuesday, June 9, at St. Luke's Catholic Church with the Rev. Jose Parada officiating. Burial was at Bluebonnet Hills Memorial Park in Colleyville.


The family request memorials to be sent to the American Heart Association.

Arrangements were handled by Donnelly's Colonial Funeral Home.
