He married Mary Jane Sneed in Livingston County, MO in 1871. They had nine children: Walter A, Jane, Frances, Elizabeth, Alice Mary, Nancy, Lewis, and Gustavis.
He worked as a farmer his whole life.
After his father died, about 1897, he moved his family to Noble County, OK during the second infamous "Land Boom."
After 1900, he moved south to Payne County, near Mehan, to live near his son. He died there a few years later.
