After Martha's death, Richard married Elizabeth Jane "Eliza" Williams of Morgan County, Indiana, who was the widow of A.J. McCoy. That marriage was on September 25, 1872.
The couple migrated first to Pike, then Emporia, Lyon County, Kansas. They are buried there, along with Richard and Martha's youngest son Willie, who died as a teen.
